Santee, San Diego County
Santee was first called Cowlestown, after George Cowles, a rancher who planted vineyards along the San Diego River in the 1870s. After his death his widow married Milton Santee, and the town took its new name in 1893. Santee incorporated in 1980, and the trolley line from downtown San Diego ends at its town center.
